Kyle Peltz, PIO Greeley Police Department (970) 350-9661, Desk kyle.peltz@greeleypd.com Vicious Dog Attack / Officer Involved Shooting GREELEY, Colo. – On Friday, May 27, 2022, Greeley Police Animal Control Officers were investigating a report of a vicious dog that bit a 10-year-old juvenile male. The juvenile male suffered significant injuries requiring stitches. The dog was described as a tan-white colored pit bull. The Animal Control Officers located the dog outside of a residence, as the Animal Control Officers approached the dog was let into the residence. The Animal Control Officer knocked on the door however, the individuals inside refused to answer the door. On Saturday, May 28, 2022, the Animal Control Officers returned to the residence with Greeley Police Officers to attempt to contact the owner of the dog. Officers contacted Margaret Trujillo, a 46-year-old female, who was advised due to the injuries sustained by the juvenile male, the dog would be impounded by the officers. Officers requested Trujillo to secure the dog so officers could safely take it to a shelter. Officers backed away from the residence while Trujillo went back inside. While Trujillo was in the residence, the dog got loose, went outside and aggressively charged at a Greeley Police Officer who drew his firearm. The officer fired two rounds at the dog, one of which hit the dog’s back leg causing it to turn and run away. The dog was eventually caught and was taken to a pets emergency hospital and will survive. The officer was not injured during this incident. Trujillo was given a citation for possession of a dangerous animal and animal-at-large. A portion of the body worn camera from the involved officer will be released with this press release. No additional information will be released today. ###
