Suspect Arrested in Homicide Case
GREELEY, Colo. – On Monday, November 28, 2022, at 3:42 a.m., Greeley Police investigated a shooting in the 1100 block of 24th Street Lane. Officers located Herminia Marquez who had been shot and was later pronounced deceased. During this investigation, a suspect was identified as 27-year-old Mary Alicia Garcia, a parole absconder. Subsequently, a warrant commanding the arrest of Garcia for first degree murder was issued. In the interim, on December 26, 2022, Greeley Police responded to a robbery at a local store in the 4700 block of 29th Street. What began as a shoplifting turned violent when Garcia allegedly pointed a handgun at an employee and then fled. A warrant commanding the arrest of Garcia for aggravated robbery was issued. On January 1, 2023, Greeley Police investigated a reported home-invasion robbery. During the investigation, the victims identified Garcia as one of the suspects, one armed with a handgun. A warrant commanding the arrest of Garcia for aggravated robbery and first-degree burglary was issued. On January 3, 2023, Johnstown Police investigated a reported robbery. The investigation revealed that as Garcia struggled to rip free the victim’s purse, a gunshot was fired; Garcia fled. A warrant commanding the arrest of Garcia for aggravated robbery as issued. On Friday, January 13, 2023, at 2:37 p.m., Greeley Police located Garcia driving a vehicle in the area of 34th Street and Burlington Avenue in Evans, Colorado. Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop; however, Garcia failed to stop, and a pursuit ensued. Garcia continued to elude police for approximately six miles. At the intersection of 11th Avenue and 25th Street, Garcia abandoned the vehicle and ran off on foot; she was quickly captured by police and taken into custody.
