GREELEY, Colo. – On Monday, June 9, at approximately noon, Greeley Police responded to the 2100 block of 7th Avenue, to assist the Colorado Department of Corrections’ Parole Fugitive division in locating a 26-year-old suspect on the run from Pueblo. The suspect had been in custody serving a sentence related to first-degree assault when he was involved in a stabbing where he was named as a suspect two weeks ago and fled from a privately-owned transitional house. Parole tracked the suspect to his father’s house in Greeley and attempted to make contact with him. He fled inside. Additional adults and children left the home, leaving the suspect alone in the house. At approximately 1:40p.m., a Reverse 911 text was sent to residents in a two-block radius advising to stay inside. A search warrant was issued and the Greeley Police Department’s SWAT team deployed efforts to get the suspect to surrender. When officers made entry into the house, they located the suspect dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the basement. The Reverse 911 was cancelled at approximately 5:15p.m. The name of the suspect will be released by the Weld County Coroner’s Office pending next of kin notification. This is an ongoing investigation, anyone with information on the case should contact Detective Max Moree at max.moree@greeleypd.com or (970) 350-9549. No further information will be released today.###
