Overnight Shooting Leaves One Dead

GREELEY, Colo. – On July 30, at approximately midnight, officers from the Greeley Police Department responded to the 700 block of 15th Street following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an 18-year-old male who was unresponsive. Officers learned there had been a verbal altercation between the victim and a male suspect from an SUV. The altercation led to a suspect from within the vehicle firing multiple rounds, with at least one hitting the victim. Witnesses performed CPR on the victim until law enforcement arrived; he was then transported to Northern Colorado Medical Center and pronounced deceased. Through the investigation, officers were able to contact the suspect and identify him as Charles Espinoza, 42. He was taken into custody without incident and will be booked into the Weld County Jail on charges of first degree murder. This was an isolated incident and there is no danger to the community. The name of the victim will be released by the Weld County Coroner's Office pending next-of-kin notification. This investigation is ongoing.
