GREELEY, Colo. – The Greeley Police Department, in partnership with the City of Greeley, is launching an automated traffic safety initiative aimed at improving driver behavior, reducing instances of excessive speeding, and enhancing overall street safety.
As part of this program, two minivans equipped with advanced camera technology, will be strategically deployed at high-risk locations throughout the city. These vehicles are designed to monitor and record speeding violations in real-time.
The program will begin with a 30-day warning period starting May 14, where drivers will receive notifications of any infractions. Following this, from June 14 onward, citations will be issued for confirmed violations. Fines are set at $40 for speeding violations in non-school zones and $80 for those occurring in school zones or active work zones.
To administer this program, the City of Greeley has contracted with Verra Mobility, a leader in speed safety technology. The mobile units will capture images of vehicle license plates, which will then be reviewed by law enforcement to verify the violation before a citation is issued to the vehicle's registered owner.
Commander Mike Heck, who oversees the Greeley Police Department traffic unit, said the department receives many complaints about traffic dangers within the city. "After extensive research, we are excited to implement the mobile speed photo safety program to help improve quality of life issues throughout the City of Greeley by increasing traffic safety."
