Greeley Police Searching for Fatal Hit & Run Driver One Year Later
GREELEY, Colo. – On February 4, 2023, at 8:20 p.m., Greeley Police officers and other first responders were dispatched to the intersection of 35th Avenue and 4th Street for reports of a vehicle vs. pedestrian hit and run traffic accident. The run vehicle fled the scene immediately after striking a pedestrian and without stopping to render aid or check on the victim.
When first responders arrived on scene, they located 53-year-old Christopher Barnes with severe injuries. Mr. Barnes was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Due to the seriousness of the accident, the Greeley Police Department Traffic Unit was immediately requested to respond to the scene.
Investigators are seeking to identify a vehicle of interest in this case, which is described as a gray, 2019 – 2023 Dodge Ram Mega Cab (4-door crew cab) pickup truck. There is a large, approximately 10” wide, space behind where the rear doors would normally end. The truck is also believed to be a “Sport,” “Blackout,” or “Night” edition due to the overall lack of chrome and reflective badging. The truck likely sustained minor to moderate front end damage from the collision.
Mr. Barnes’ family and friends deserve to hold those responsible for his death accountable for their actions. If you know who owns this truck or have any other information about this case, no matter how small or insignificant, please contact Officer Tharp or Officer Wegscheider at 970-350-9533.
