GREELEY, Colo. –  On August 15th, at approximately 9:40 p.m., the Greeley Police Department responded to a high-speed collision at the intersection of 35th Avenue and 10th Street. According to preliminary reports, a motorcyclist traveling westbound on 10th Street—at an estimated speed exceeding 100 mph—ran a red light and collided with a vehicle traveling southbound on 35th Avenue causing a five-vehicle accident. The initial impact sparked a fire.

According to responding officers, the 19-year-old male driver of the southbound vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency personnel extinguished the flames. The motorcyclist involved in the collision also succumbed to injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Law enforcement officials are currently working to identify the motorcyclist and notify next of kin.

The Greeley Police Department would like to thank the Greeley Fire Department and Streets Department for their quick response. Our emergency responders’ quick response saved the lives of multiple people.

This investigation is ongoing. It is unknown at this time whether alcohol or substances were a factor in the accident. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Officer Ashton Steely at Ashton.Steely@greeleypd.com.
