A Message from Mayor John Gates

On behalf of the Greeley City Council, I want to extend our sincere gratitude to City Manager Raymond C. Lee, III, for his leadership, dedication, and service to the City of Greeley over the past five years.

During his tenure, Raymond has played a key role in positioning Greeley for the future. We asked Raymond to help guide thoughtful growth, strengthen our local economy, and ensure that our city continues to be a welcoming and vibrant place to live, work, and thrive. Under Raymond’s leadership, the city organization has made tremendous progress on projects and initiatives that will benefit residents for years to come.

We are deeply appreciative for the collaboration, professionalism, and bold vision that Raymond brought to this role. His commitment to intentional growth, community engagement, and organizational excellence has left a lasting impact on Greeley and on all who have had the opportunity to work alongside him.

As Raymond transitions out of his role on December 2, we are confident in the strong foundation that remains.

Acting City Manager Brian McBroom will provide steady leadership during this transition, ensuring continuity of operations and continued progress on the city’s priorities. Brian McBroom brings experience as the Acting City Manager, including almost nine years as City Manager of the City of Commerce City. He holds a degree in sociology, with a focus on urban studies, from the University of Michigan.

City Council plans to conduct a national search for our next city manager. As we do so, we are committed to bringing the community along every step of the way. Each of your voices is critical to understanding the opportunities and challenges that we face, and in finding the right candidate to meet the moment for Greeley right now.

The City Council looks forward to working with staff, community partners, and residents as we continue advancing Greeley’s vision for the future. We thank Raymond for his years of service and wish him the very best in his next chapter.

With appreciation,

John Gates
Mayor, City of Greeley

FAQs

Who will manage the city in the meantime?

City Council has appointed Acting City Manager Brian McBroom to ensure continuity and stability during this transitional period and throughout the search process for a new city manager.

How will this affect ongoing projects?

Ongoing projects will continue as planned. The city has strong and dedicated teams in place to ensure a smooth transition.

What is the process for selecting a new city manager?

The selection process will be transparent and inclusive, involving community input and a thorough search for the best candidate to lead the City of Greeley. The city will select a recruitment firm to assist with this executive-level search. A public recruitment webpage will be developed to keep the community informed about the recruitment process and timeline.

How can the community stay informed?

Updates will be provided through official city channels, including the website and public meetings. Community members are encouraged to stay engaged.

How long will it take to get a new city manager?

Per city charter, an acting city manager can serve for up to nine months. While city council intends to move quickly in appointing a city manager, this longer period of time allows for a thorough search process that includes community input and feedback in order to find the right candidate for the job.

Introducing New Safety Measures for Council Meetings

Starting Tuesday, October 7, the City of Greeley will introduce new security steps at City Council meetings and work sessions. These changes are designed to keep meetings safe and secure for everyone.

“City Council meetings are an important way for residents to share their voices and stay involved in local government,” said Chief Public Safety Officer Rick Ruggieri. “These proactive safety protocols will help us ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone while keeping our meetings open and accessible to the public.”

What’s Changing
•    Regular City Council meetings and work sessions held at City Center South, 1001 11th Avenue, will now have updated security measures.
•    After 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, all visitors should use the west side doors and follow posted signs.
•    Visitors will walk through a metal detector when entering.
•    Officers may check bags upon entry.
•    Attendees are encouraged to limit bags and personal items and to arrive a little earlier to allow time for security screening.

The City of Greeley appreciates the public’s patience as these new measures begin. These steps are common in many communities and are meant to ensure meetings remain a safe space for all.
