Driver Arrested After Radar Detects Speeds of 133mph
GREELEY, Colo. — A 21-year-old man was arrested Tuesday night following reports of a Camaro evading authorities and traveling at extremely high speeds.
At around 10:20 p.m. on November 18, Greeley Police received a call from the Weld County Sheriff’s Office about a Camaro that failed to yield to them at the intersection of 23rd Avenue and Highway 34. Shortly thereafter, a technician operating a mobile radar van detected the same vehicle traveling at 133 mph in the 5000 block of Highway 34. The technician was able to make a positive identification of the vehicle and pass that information to officers and deputies.
Although Greeley officers initially lost sight of the vehicle, the Weld County Sheriff’s Office eventually located the Camaro in Loveland at approximately 4:00a.m., November 19. The driver, Vicente Pena, was arrested by a WSCO deputy and booked into the Weld County Jail.
Pena now faces multiple charges including felony vehicular eluding, misdemeanor reckless endangerment, misdemeanor reckless driving, failure to obey a traffic control signal, and misdemeanor speeding (notably 40 mph over the prima facie limit), among other offenses.
The Greeley Police Department is appreciative to the Weld County Sheriff’s Office for their partnership in this case. This is an active investigation. Greeley Police are asking anyone with additional information to contact Sgt. Brock Little at brock.little@greeleypd.com.
No further details will be released today.
