The Rodarte Community Center is launching a mentoring program designed for adults (ages 18 and older) interested in working with youth during the spring semester. The program will start in February and conclude in April. Mentors will be paired with a student (ages 5-13) enrolled in the After School Program. Adults are asked to commit to meeting with the student for four hours a week on Wednesday afternoons.

The program was inspired by staff at the Rodarte Community Center who wanted to offer students a positive role model. The idea is to foster a meaningful relationship one-on-one with a student involved in the program, offering help with homework, getting to know them and their interests, sparking a desire to get involved in activities, cultivating learning, and inspiring a desire to look toward the future and discuss avenues for growth.

This new program is partially funded by a grant from the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA). The goal is to offer this opportunity three times a year, in the spring, summer and fall.

It’s ideal for retired professionals, adult volunteers, or high school and college students who might need to fulfill community service for scholarships and graduation.

If you are interested in making a difference in a child's life, consider applying to be part of the Rodarte Rising Mentorship program or contact our staff at 970-350-9430 for more information.
