Greeley Police Commander Graduates from Prestigious FBI National Academy
QUANTICO, Virginia – The Greeley Police Department is proud to announce that Commander Matthew Patella has successfully graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Commander Patella was among an elite group of law enforcement leaders from across the nation and internationally to complete the rigorous 10-week professional course of study.
The FBI National Academy is globally recognized for its academic excellence, offering advanced communication, leadership and fitness training for selected officers with proven track records within their agencies. On average, less than one percent of law enforcement officers worldwide are selected to attend this prestigious program.
Participation in the National Academy involves 10 weeks of advanced undergraduate and graduate-level coursework covering executive leadership, intelligence theory, terrorism, law, behavioral science, and forensic science. The program also challenges participants physically through advanced fitness coursework, culminating in the famous "Yellow Brick Road" physical challenge at the Marine Corps Base in Quantico.
"We are incredibly proud of Commander Patella's accomplishment," said Greeley Police Chief Adam Turk. "His graduation from the FBI National Academy reflects his dedication to personal excellence and his continuous pursuit of leadership development. The advanced training and insights Commander Patella gained at Quantico will directly benefit the Greeley Police Department and the community we serve."
Commander Patella, who began his career in law enforcement in 2004 and joined the Greeley Police Department in 2007, has served in various leadership capacities throughout his tenure, including roles in patrol and operational management. He currently oversees SWAT, Crisis Negotiations, Peer Support and Animal Control Officers.
The graduation ceremony was held at the National Academy facilities in Quantico on Thursday, Sept. 17, attended by executive law enforcement leaders, FBI officials, and families of the graduates.
