Pedestrian Killed by Train in East Greeley
GREELEY, Colo. – On Wednesday, September 30, at approximately 6:00 a.m., Greeley Police officers responded to the railroad tracks south of the Highway 34/Highway 85 interchange following reports of a train striking a pedestrian.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a northbound Union Pacific train was traveling through the area when the conductor observed an adult male walking northbound along the tracks. The conductor sounded the train’s horn as a warning. The pedestrian initially stepped to the side but moved back onto the tracks into the train’s path, resulting in a collision.
Medical personnel responded to the scene where the victim, tentatively identified as a 36-year-old man, was pronounced dead. His identification will be released by the Weld County Coroner’s Office following next-of-kind notification.
Anyone with information about this crash is asked to contact Officer Garrett Casperson at Garrett.Casperson@greeleypd.com. This remains an ongoing investigation. No further details will be released today.
