GREELEY, Colo. —The Greeley Historic Preservation Commission invites the public to two History Hour presentations in October.

On October 15, Michael Welsh, Ph.D., who was a professor of history at the University of Northern Colorado for 35 years, will discuss the second edition of “Confluence: The Story of Greeley Water.” He also co-authored the first edition. The book revisits one of the defining forces in Greeley’s history: water.

From the city’s founding in 1870 at the meeting of the Cache la Poudre and South Platte rivers, water shaped Greeley’s growth, identity, and future. The book also explores the historic conflict with upstream irrigators near present-day Windsor, which helped give rise to the foundation of western water law. As Greeley reflects on its past and future, “Confluence” offers important perspectives on how water made this community possible.

The second History Hour offered this month will be October 22, as Tony Arguello presents, “Out of Many Am I.” It’s a story of his family, handed down through generations. It shares their struggles, adventures, and travels, and the impact of those events on Tony. He comes from many cultures around the world and encourages attendees to research their own family histories.

Both presentations will be at noon at the Greeley History Museum, 714 8th Street.

The presentations are free and open to the public; no reservations are required.
