Poudre River Trail along the “Narrows” section of the trail.

GREELEY, Colo. —The City of Greeley will begin construction on the “Narrows” section of the Poudre River Trail at the end of November to address significant erosion impacting the trail and riverbank. The work will include widening the trail from 6' to 12', which will significantly improve the comfort and safety of trail users.

The project will stabilize the riverbank and trail, improve long-term trail stability and support public safety and environmental resilience. Construction is expected to last several months, and the affected section of the trail will be closed during construction. Nearby residential neighborhoods may experience temporary traffic impacts from construction activity. Trail users should plan for the closure and watch for updates about closure dates, duration and access.

Community Open House

The City will host a community open house Thursday, October 1, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Poudre Learning Center, InSTEM Building (8313 N Poudre River Rd, Greeley, CO 80634) to provide information about the project and answer questions from residents.

City staff will be available to discuss:

  • The erosion stabilization project and construction activities
  • Expected neighborhood impacts and the upcoming trail closure
  • Wildfire prevention and mitigation
  • Vegetation management on natural areas

Additional information about construction and trail closure dates will be shared as the project approaches. Residents and trail users should monitor City communications and signage at trail access points for updates.
While construction will temporarily disrupt trail access and affect the surrounding neighborhood, the completed project will help address ongoing erosion and improve the long-term stability of the Poudre River Trail.
