City of Greeley to Conduct Public Interviews for Ward 1 Council Vacancy
GREELEY, Colo. — The City of Greeley will hold public interviews for candidates seeking appointment to the Ward 1 City Council seat during the City Council meeting held Tuesday, May 5, at 5 p.m. The Council meeting will start 1 hour earlier to allow adequate time to interview all candidates.
The vacancy follows the departure of former Councilmember Tommy Butler. The city received 15 applications, with 13 eligible candidates meeting the requirements outlined in the City’s municipal code.
Applicants need to meet the following qualifications:
- U.S. Citizen
- At least 21 years of age
- Resident of Greeley for at least one year
- Resident of Ward 1 for at least 90 days
- No felony convictions
- Not currently holding another public office
Council determined during the April 28 session that they would narrow down the list of candidates to allow plenty of time to evaluate candidates during the upcoming Council meeting. The final candidates are:
- Robert Casey
- David Huddleston
- Gabrial Llanas
- Kyle Rush
- Kimberly Soper
- Gregory Yielding
During the May 5 meeting, candidates will participate in a panel interview format and will be asked the same set of questions with an option for clarifying follow-up questions from council. Interviews will be conducted in a public setting and broadcast via the city’s meeting portal.
City Council will make a selection following the interviews through a vote conducted during the public meeting. The appointment will be formalized through a resolution at the May 19 City Council meeting, when the selected candidate will be sworn in.
Community members are encouraged to attend the meeting or watch online to observe the process.
