Four-Vehicle Accident with City Bus Ends in One Death
GREELEY, Colo. – On Tuesday, December 16, at approximately 2:45 p.m., Greeley Police responded to the 4400 block of 10th Street for a four-vehicle collision involving a Greeley Evans Transit (GET) bus. An 82-year-old man from Kersey, driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer, struck the rear of a GMC Yukon, which in turn collided with the GET bus.
At the time of the crash, the bus was stopped at an authorized bus stop, with hazard lights activated, while loading and unloading passengers.
The Trailblazer driver was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries on December 17.
The driver of the Yukon, age 50, and her passenger, age 75, were also taken to a local hospital but did not sustain injuries. A fourth vehicle, a Nissan Altima driven by a 65-year-old man, was struck and pushed aside by the Yukon; he was uninjured.
The bus driver, a 60-year-old City of Greeley employee had complaint of minor injury and was treated a local hospital and released, but all passengers on board were not injured.
Early investigation indicates the Trailblazer driver was traveling too fast for conditions and following too closely.
The Weld County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the deceased pending next-of-kin notification.
Anyone with information about this collision is asked to contact Officer Chad Wegscheider at (970) 652-8232 or Chad.Wegscheider@greeleypd.com.
This investigation is ongoing. No charges have been filed at this time, and no further information will be released today.
