Description
Step back into the 1870s with “A Great Frontier Odyssey: Sketching the American West,” a new traveling exhibition at the Greeley History Museum. Follow artists Jules Tavernier and Paul Frenzeny on their 1873 cross-country journey, capturing life and landscapes of the American West through detailed wood engravings. The pair documented frontier towns, settlers, and the expanding West so that Americans could see images of life on the frontier.
The exhibition traces their travels from East Coast printshops to the Pacific. Experience 19th-century America through the eyes of two remarkable illustrators whose work shaped how the nation envisioned its frontier.
Exhibit open Thursdays-Saturdays. Last day: May 23, 2026.
