GREELEY, Colo. — To celebrate?Fire Prevention Week (October 6-12), the Greeley Fire Department will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 12,?at Fire Station #5, 4701 West 24th?Street.

This year, the Greeley Fire Department is partnering with the?National Fire Protection Association?(NFPA) to promote the 2024 campaign, “Smoke alarms: Make them work for you!” Statistics shows that most home fire deaths in the U.S. occur in homes without working smoke alarms or no alarms at all.

The Greeley Fire Department is sharing these important tips for this year's theme to help keep families safe:

  • Install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each separate sleeping area (like a hallway), and on each level (including the basement) of the home.
  • Make sure smoke alarms meet the needs of all family members, including those with sensory or physical disabilities.
  • Test smoke alarms monthly by pushing the test button.
  • Replace smoke alarms after 10 years, or sooner if they don’t work when tested.
