A vibrant display of Mexican cultural heritage with a dancer showcasing her colorful skirt on the plaza at Centennial Village Museum.

Fiesta in the Plaza, free and open to the public, will be from 3-6 p.m. September 7, at Centennial Village Museum, 1475 A. Street, Greeley. It is co-sponsored by Mexican American History Project Greeley (MAHPG) and the City of Greeley Museums.

Entertainment includes Mariachi bands and Mexican dancers during the three-hour event. Stroll through Centennial Village Museum, enjoy crafts, watch as corn is ground for tortillas and view blacksmithing and printmaking demonstrations. Free beverages and snacks will be provided.

The Fiesta reflects the Mexican tradition of strolling or “paseo.” In Mexico, the traditional purpose of strolling the plaza was for young women and men to meet each other.? Men would go in one direction and the women, with their chaperones, would stroll in the opposite direction.
