Construction on Greeley’s 16th Street Project Begins November 18

The project will make 16th Street safer, improve sidewalks, and add parking. 

GREELEY, Colo. — Construction on Greeley’s 16th Street Enhancement Project begins on November 18. The first part of the project will replace or relocate utilities below the street, including water and sewer lines, electric and gas. This work will continue into spring. Additional construction on new sidewalks, streets, stormwater and parking will last through the summer. 

All businesses will stay open during construction. Crews will plan any shutdowns with local businesses and residents to minimize disruptions. 

Updates and detour information will be available on Speak Up Greeley. 

About the Project 

The section of 16th Street between 7th and 11th Avenues connects downtown Greeley to the University of Northern Colorado. This area needs safer walkways and updated streets. For the last three years, city planners have worked with the community to improve 16th Street. 

The new design includes smoother and wider sidewalks, more parking, improved landscaping and streetscapes, and slower speeds to make it safer for everyone.

City staff and project team members will be at John Galt Coffee (709 16th Street) on Thursday, November 14, from 4 to 6 p.m. Community members can stop by to learn about the project and talk with city staff and contractors at this meeting.
