Greeley Police Department Launches Drone as First Responder Program to Strengthen Real-Time Response

GREELEY, Colo. — The Greeley Police Department continues to enhance its public safety capabilities through its Real Time Information Center, which has been in operation since 2024.

Since opening, the center has leveraged multiple technology platforms to support real-time response and information-sharing, including traffic cameras, body-worn cameras, gunshot detection, automated license plate readers, and live 911 calls.

This integrated technology helps officers and first responders make informed decisions quickly, enhancing safety for both emergency personnel and the community they serve.

On March 26, 2026, the Greeley Police Department added a new capability with the launch of its Drones as a First Responder (DFR) program. The program uses four Skydio X-10 drones, docked at strategic locations across the city based on 911 call data, to assist with high-priority incidents. The drones are currently deployed to calls where real-time aerial information can support first responders, including serious traffic crashes involving injured or trapped individuals, disturbances involving weapons, and searches for lost adults or children, or other high-priority incidents.

As part of its commitment to transparency, the Greeley Police Department maintains a public transparency page that includes historical drone flight patterns, DFR statistics, and Real Time Information Center statistics. The page is available on the Greeley Police Department website under the GPD Technology tab at https://greeleyco.gov/government/public-safety/police/.
No further information will be released today.
