Drugs Suspected in Double Fatal Traffic Crash

GREELEY, Colo. – On Sunday, August 30, at approximately 5:05 p.m., Greeley Police officers responded to the intersection of Highway 34 and Weld County Road 17 on reports of a traffic collision.

According to witness reports, an eastbound Toyota RAV4 was driving erratically on Highway 34 and passing vehicles on the shoulder. Upon approaching a red traffic light at Weld County Road 17, the driver used the right shoulder to bypass stopped traffic and entered the intersection at a high rate of speed, running the red light. The driver, identified as 35-year-old Jesse Anderson of Denver, broadsided a northbound Toyota Corolla.

Both the male driver and female passenger of the northbound vehicle were declared dead at the scene. Their identities will be released by the Weld County Coroner’s Office Pending next of kin notification.

Immediately after the crash, Anderson barricaded himself inside his vehicle. Officers intervened, removed Anderson from the vehicle, and secured him for transport to a local hospital for a medical evaluation. He was subsequently booked into Weld County Jail on two counts of vehicular homicide, reckless driving and driving under the influence of drugs.

Westbound traffic on Highway 34 between WCR 17 and State Highway 257 was shut down for approximately five hours.
