Street Closures Planned Along 9th Avenue Near St. Peter's Catholic Church

More downtown closures and reopenings are planned as construction moves forward.  

GREELEY, Colo. – As soon as Monday, September 21, the block of 9th Avenue between 11th and 12th streets near St. Peter’s Catholic Church will close for several months while crews install a new underground stormwater system.

The work area is tight, and the stormwater structures are too large to install as pre-cast pieces. Instead, crews will build the structures on-site. This construction approach will create more durable structures that provide a long-term solution for downtown infrastructure needs.

Building the system in place will also help reduce project costs. Once complete, the project will help reduce downtown flooding and support future development by improving the City’s water, sewer, and stormwater infrastructure.

Other Downtown Construction Updates:

  • Westbound 10th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues – will close the week of September 14.
  • The 7th Avenue and 10th Street intersection – will reopen the week of September 14.
  • Westbound 10th Street between 9th and 10th Avenues – will close the week of September 21.
  • 8th Avenue and 10th Street intersection –will remain closed through late October.
  • 10th Street between 7th and 8th Avenues – remains closed through mid-October.

Construction schedules are weather-dependent and may change.

What to Expect:  

  • Businesses, sidewalks and pedestrian access will remain open.
  • Some street parking near the intersections may be temporarily unavailable.
  • Greeley-Evans Transit Route 4 and Stop 287 will be affected. Buses will detour using 6th Avenue and 8th Street through early October. Riders should check Greeley Transit for current route and stop information.

This work is part of the Downtown Infrastructure Improvements Project. The project is replacing and improving older water, sewer and stormwater systems in downtown Greeley. It also includes improvements to roads, sidewalks and streetscapes.
