GREELEY, Colo. — Greeley residents can keep watering lawns, gardens and outdoor landscapes under normal watering guidelines through October 31 after the City’s Water and Sewer Board declared an adequate water year on April 15.

The declaration means city officials have determined there is enough water supply for residents to maintain healthy landscapes this season. Board members also stressed the importance of using water efficiently to avoid waste.

“This will be probably one of the most important decisions the Board makes all year,” Water and Sewer Board Chairman Harold Evans said.

The City’s supply outlook is supported in part by Northern Water’s 2026 allocation of Colorado-Big Thompson Project (C-BT) water at 0.8 acre-feet per unit. The annual quota determines how much water owners of C-BT allotment contracts may receive through Oct. 31, 2026.

Water and Sewer Director Sean Chambers said the City has both adequate supply and a number of  programs to guide residents’ responsible water use. Water supply and storage analyses confirm that ample water resources exist for meeting the city’s current and future needs.

“Our analysis shows that we have more than adequate supply, based on the planning that this Board has undertaken for decades,” Chambers said. “We’ll continue to communicate the importance of efficiency in how our customers use water.”
