Housing Director Deb Callies Earns National Recognition for Housing Leadership
Gov Business Review names Greeley’s housing director its 2026 Director of Housing of the Year
GREELEY, Colo. — Housing Director Deb Callies has been named Gov Business Review’s 2026 Director of Housing of the Year. The award recognizes her leadership, more than 20 years of experience and commitment to expanding housing opportunities.
Callies connects housing policy with the broader role housing plays in people’s lives. Her background in sociology, affordable housing, workforce development, and grant-funded programs shapes her approach to housing decisions and their long-term effect on residents and neighbors.
“Where we live determines what opportunities we have for economic growth, education, healthcare and mental health care,” said Callies in the award profile published by Gov Business Review.
Planning for a wider range of housing
One of Callies’ key priorities is helping Greeley create more mixed-income neighborhoods as the city grows. The City’s Housing for All Strategic Plan identifies these neighborhoods as a key goal.
Meeting that goal requires planning, funding, and partnerships to create housing options for people across income levels. Callies’ team is exploring local funding, providing down payment assistance through programs like GHOPE, reviewing regulations that may add costs or delay projects, and using land banking to support future development.
Callies’ leadership connects these long-term housing goals with the day-to-day work of city policy and programs. The Gov Business Review award recognizes this excellence in her approach to housing leadership and her work to create more housing options for Greeley residents.
