GreeleyCO.gov, a New Website Built for You

Welcome to the new City of Greeley website. We are currently in a soft launch and are continuing to improve the upgraded site. Thank you for your patience as we work through the final stages of development.

Our Story

The City of Greeley’s Museums trace their origins back to the 1870s. On December 7, 1870 Nathan C. Meeker, Greeley’s founder, suggested to the townspeople the following:

“Now, while we are daily exploring the prairies, mountains and streams and even bringing up the buried treasures of the ages from the ground beneath us, we hope that our people will bear in mind the fact that we are organizing a museum for the benefit of the whole colony and whenever anything appropriate may be found, let it be placed among our common treasures and we will soon have a collection that will be both instructive and entertaining.

Bring specimens of fossils, petrification, minerals and even birds and small animals, which will be properly prepared. Many of our people have rare articles which they have expressed a wish to donate so that it could be cared for. A room has now been appropriated for this purpose in connection with the Reading Room by the trustees and it will be placed in the hands of competent persons for the classification of all donations.”

Preserving Greeley and Weld County’s Past

Since 1929, City of Greeley Museums’ mission has remained unchanged: to collect, preserve, interpret, and share the history of northeastern Colorado. We hold nearly 90,000 items in our collections and maintain over 40 historic buildings across 17 acres and 4 museum sites. Collection of Weld County treasures started in the early 20th century and by 1929, residents preserved it in Greeley’s first official museum: Meeker Home Museum. Centennial Village was added in 1976 as a Bicentennial Project, White Plumb Farm was donated by the Plumb family in 1996 and Greeley History Museum found a home in the refurbished Greeley Tribune Building in 2005.

We welcome thousands of people every year. Are you next in line?
